The temple was constructed by Soma as an act of gratitude after Lord Shiva got cured from his illness. His sickness was caused by the father-in-law Daksha Prajapati’s curse. Darsha cursed him to wane as he got infatuated with Rohini and was also neglecting the 26 other wives. All the 26 wives were daughters of Prajapati. He was advised to build the temple in honor of Shiva.
